RANSOMED AND REDEEMED

The Bible teaches that under the Mosaic Law we were slaves under bondage under the elements of the world.(Gal.4:3) Yes we were all held for ransom by the cruelty of the "curse of the law". Thank God it is for the "ransomed" Jesus made the ultimate payment for our redemption. The definition of redeemed is to buy back those who have been ransomed. "To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons".(Gal. 4:5)  The ransom was huge, but redemption came thanks to the precious blood of Jesus. One thing that must never be over looked, is the fact that the "blood of the Lamb" not only forgives our sin, but also deals with and takes away our guilt and shame!

Let's focus on the removal of guilt and shame in these actions of Jesus. First at the wedding of Cana, the bridegroom had ran out of wine, with select guests and even a governor present. Can you imagine yourself in this predicament, how embarrassing it would be in that kind of prestigious setting. I thought it was amazing, Jesus first miracle turned water into wine and that was certainly noteworthy. However, consider this;  the added blessing ensures the bridegroom was not at all embarrassed from his failure and felt no guilt nor shame. "And there were set six waterpots of stone, after the manner of the purifying  of the Jews..."(St. Jn.2:6)  Jesus breaks with the Law of Moses, and just for a little while, the ritual of the washings and cleansings so revered by the Jews, gave way to joy and gladness at this wine-filled celebration.

Most all are familiar with Jesus' encounter with the Samaritan woman at the well. Jesus breaks tradition of the Law of Moses just by talking to her. This woman is a repeat offender and declares Jacob as her father. Jacob was a supplanter and deceiver, she lays claim to Jacobs well, that entails the life-style of unregenerate people. But she's not about to call him by his new name Israel (a prince of God). That's about to change!! Her freedom begins with her confession of truth to Jesus; "I have no husband". Jesus said thou hast well said, and she will now meet her next husband Jesus. He's number seven signifying perfection and completeness and the end to guilt and shame of the Law of Moses. The Samaritans adhered to the Pentateuch (the first five books of Moses) but were mixed with pagan worshipers. Her lifestyle of paganism mixed with scripture brought guilt and shame. It is obvious she knew scripture: "And I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him".(Duet.18:18) When her guilt and shame were gone, she forgets the natural because scripture says; she left her water pot ! Then running back to the city she now has a message: "Come see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ"? (St. Jn.4:29)  She knew the scripture, she recognized him as a prophet not only because He told her many secrets of the heart, but more importantly something happened to her guilt and shame!

Like the Samaritans, today's systems of men are mixed with half-truths and paganism. It takes devotion to one husband (the Holy Ghost) to sort through the previous lovers and see a man who can tell you all things. The Prophet Isaiah ask the question: "Who is blind but my servant? or deaf as my messenger that I sent? (Isa. 42:19) There's an old proverb (not sure where it came from) which says: "In the Kingdom of the blind, the one-eyed man is King". Jesus said: "Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch".(Matt 15:14)  Looking close we can see Jesus quoted Isaiah; the people draw nigh with their lips but their heart is far from me. "That seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear , and not understand; lest at any time they should be converted and their sins should be forgiven them".(Mark 4:12)  The direct result of their lip-service caused Jesus to deliberately speak in parables so they would remain in darkness not understanding until they would repent for not seeking after the TRUTH. We must never usurp the authority of the Holy Ghost, by blindly following after men who will not preach truth because they "please men'.
